GKAISA City Meet Tips and Info
July 24th
Here are some tips for the GKAISA City Meet this weekend:
- Warmups - Swimmers should be at the pool dressed and ready for warmups at 7:55am. Meet will start promptly at 9:00am.
- Allan Jones pool - at 2200 Andy Holt Ave on the UT Campus. Traffic police will be working all weekend at the meet and will not allow you to drop your swimmer off in front of the building - so plan your travel time accordingly.
- WCST Tent - Look for the Crocodile banner - last year we were in the front of the building.
- Parking passes for the garage across the street can be purchased at the pool ticket window inside the entrance door. And UT will give tickets - so please be sure you have a pass (for the proper day) showing in your car window.
- Lineups will be in Heat sheets that are sold for each day for $10 at the ticket window inside the pool entrance door. The proceeds from these sales fund GKAISA scholarships. Remember to bring a highlighter - and a pen to record your time on your heat sheet. :)
- Clerk of Course area is very large and behind the building- one for girls and one for boys - and swimmers will be called to line up way in advance of their event - so please listen carefully to the announcements.
- Workers - 1st shift meeting is 8:20am, 2nd shift meeting is 10:55am and 3rd shft meeting is 12:55pm - at Girls Clerk of Course.
- Goody Bags - each WCST swimmer will get a bag of snacks and a special City Meet swim cap!
- City Meet T-shirts will be handed out at the WCST tent if you ordered them in advance. You can also purchase them at the pool.
- Viewing Area - some families will stake out spots in the bleachers and camp out there all day to watch swimming - so if you want a good vantage point for your swimmer's event, get there early and stay put. But don't worry, there are always seats :)
- Warmup pool (at the diving well) - swimmers are allowed to swim here throughout the day - but warn your swimmer to not overdo it!
- Results are posted soon after each event in the hallway of Allan Jones - or get the app "Meet Mobile" on your smart phone and get results in real time. Results are also posted online at www.gkaisa.org at the end of the day's competition.
- Finals - Team points, medals and ribbons are awarded to the top 16 times in each preliminary event. The top 16 swimmers (plus 2 alternates) are invited back to compete in the Finals on Sunday.
- Heat Winner Ribbons are given out - and can be redeemed for a free ice cream - at the Pilot tent near the entrance! :)
- Concessions will be open - serving snacks and drinks. Swim & Tri and Jaws will also be there selling swim gear.
- Potluck - The team provides Subway sandwiches on Friday & Saturday - as well as a potluck of breakfast and snack items in our tent.
- Bring towel, swimsuit, goggles, sharpies, money, sunscreen, bug spray, dry clothes. Optional items - camping chairs, blankets, small coolers, playing cards, books, mobile devices or other entertainment while you are in the tent waiting for your event.
- Ribbons and medals from this meet are given out at the swim team banquet on August 11th.
- Smoking and alcoholic beverages are prohibited in the pool area at all GKAISA meets.
- Consult the WCST website's FAQ page for more great info!
