Food for this Thursday's meet
Hi Crocodiles,
We are looking forward to a great meet this Thursday - and the weather forecast is improving...!
There have been lots of questions and also lots of feedback on the concessions stand and food availability for our home meets, so I wanted to give everyone a quick update.
In order to minimize the amount of effort required by our parent volunteers, we decided to try "outsourcing" our concessions to a food truck at the Jefferson City meet two weeks ago. Rebecca and Daniel Saldivar - owners of Savor Catering - had availability for all of our remaining home meets and brought their Tootsie Truck out for a test run. Judging by all of the positive feedback we have received, it was a huge success!
People liked the high-quality, fresh food options and it GREATLY reduced the amount of effort required by our volunteers to have our concessions stand - which only sold drinks and candy/snacks. From a volunteer perspective, the JCSC meet was our best in recent memory with all parent positions covered. Long story short, we are sticking with the new program!
I spoke to Rebecca last week and asked if they would consider adding some "quick" items to the Tootsie Truck in order to make it easier for people that only had a few minutes and preferred not to wait for cook-to-order items. I also asked for some lower-priced, kid-oriented items and if they could arrive prior to the beginning of the meet. She said she would work on these.
It is important to note that we have no contractual agreement with the Saldivars. They are simply bringing out the Tootsie Truck and parking it in front of our clubhouse during our meets. We do not pay them nor do we receive any share of the sales. Their only requirement is that they are the only food truck in attendance at our events. We will still continue to sell drinks and candy at our concessions tent, but no "hot items".
Thanks for your support and all the help you give to our swimmers!
