The Smoky Mountain Invitational is the largest outdoor swim meet in the US with more than 1,600 swimmers and 30 teams competing. The event is always on a Saturday and Sunday in July, with 11 & older kids swimming on Saturday and 10 & younger kids on Sunday. This meet is open to non year-round, summer swimmers only. Each event is a timed finals format - whoever swims the fastest - in any heat - can win! Points are awarded for the fastest 12 swimmers in each event - with medals awarded to the top 3 and ribbons to the other 9 - and heat winner ribbons are given out for every heat. Teams with the most points in their league get a trophy and a winner's banner.
Kids LOVE this all day meet - just ask a veteran WCST Croc!! They see friends from school on other teams, hang out under our team tent playing games, or splash around in the big pool with the slide between races. Our team provides a snack table throughout the day - and families can grab a bite to eat at the concession stand or take a short drive to a restaurant on the airport motor mile between races. Vendors will be onsite selling event t-shirts, hoodies, swimsuits, goggles, etc. Warmups can be scheduled as early as 7:00 - and races can go as late as 5:00pm on the younger kids day and 8:00pm on the older kids day.
We know this meet sounds a little intimidating to our new families - but your swimmer(s) will have a blast! And veteran WCST parents and swimmers will be there to help show you the ropes - go online and RSVP today - you don't want to miss out on the fun!!
