WCST - Notes about Ribbons...

Some notes about ribbons for our new families - and a refresher for our veteran families...

    • At our Green & White practice meet, all ages got a place ribbon for every heat they swam.
    • At Dual Competition Meets, 10 & Under swimmers will continue to get a place ribbon for every heat they swim. If your 10 & Under gets an orange personal best ribbon, that means your swimmer DQ'd. Coaches have the DQ paperwork with the infraction i.e. one hand touch on butterfly, scissor kick on breaststroke, early relay jump, etc.
    • At Dual Competition Meets, 11 & Up swimmers only get place ribbons if they swim in the first heat of an event. This is the scoring heat for the meet and points for the team are awarded in all events in this first heat.
    • 11 & Ups who DQ will not receive any ribbon for that event - and should check with the coaches to find out why they DQ'd so that the stroke problem can be corrected. 11 & Up swimmers in heats 2, 3, etc. can find their swim times on the website under the Actions Tab/Parent Page.
    • There is a lot of detail and paperwork that goes into organizing and running a swim meet for 140+ kids - and sometimes ribbons get lost in the shuffle. If you are ever missing a ribbon, please reply to this email and we will do our best to track it down. :)

    Some other related notes:

    • Throughout the season, coaches work with swimmers to learn how to do each stroke correctly and legally. For our younger swimmers, we have a program called Skills Mastery where swimmers can work to earn a bronze, silver or gold medal for stroke technique. Check the Manual Tab/Skills Mastery on the homepage of the website for more info on this program.
    • Coaches do their best to teach stroke/relay technique in group lessons, but scheduling an individual lesson with a coach is the quickest and best way to correct a stroke/relay problem.
    • For 11 & Ups, we have the Crocodile Challenge which lists swim time goals for each of thier events. Swimmers who work to get their swim times close to these times will have a better chance of making the finals at the end-of-season GKAISA City Championship Meet. Check the Manual Tab/Crocodile Challenge on the homepage of the website for more info on this program.

Please let us know if you have any questions - thank you!!
