WCST - Tips and Info for Green and White meet tomorrow Thurs, June 6th

Hello WCST!! Our first meet is tomorrow night, Thursday June 6th - so exciting! I know swim meets may be new for many of you - but this is what our Green & White practice meet is for - to help everyone learn the ropes (or remember the ropes if you are a veteran parent like me) :D

Don't worry, there will be plenty of breaks throughout the meet to answer questions and coaches will make sure everyone is getting the hang of it. And parents, if you've never worked a swim meet before, again don't worry - most jobs are pretty easy and we will train you. If you already know a job that you would like to work at the meet, go on the website www.creek.swimtopia.com and sign up. Otherwise, our Volunteer Coordinator will assign you a position based on your preferences from registration. It takes a village to run a swim meet and we couldn't do it without you!

So, here are a few things you need to know for the Green and White Meet this Thursday:

    - Meet schedule:

    • 4pm Setup begins at pool - any parents who could be at the pool to help set up would really be appreciated!!
    • 5pm Warmups for Swimmers - kids need to be at the pool at 5:00pm dressed and ready to swim for warmups at 5:15pm.
    • 5pm Meet Worker Sign-in - report to Scorer's Table
    • 5:30pm Worker's meeting - Referee & Meet Director will give short instructions for all positions
    • 6pm Meet begins - let's swim!!
    • 7pm - 7:30pm 2nd shift Meet Workers will be called to report after event 35 to relieve 1st shift workers
    • End of Meet Cleanup begins - any parents/swimmers who could help clean up would again be appreciated!
    • Pizza Party immediately following pool cleanup

    - Bring towel, swimsuit, goggles, sharpies, money, sunscreen, bug spray, dry clothes. Optional items - tents, camping chairs, blankets, small coolers. Smoking and alcoholic beverages are prohibited in the pool area during all GKAISA meets.

    - The list of events for your swimmer will be posted on a bulletin board on the pool deck, so please check for it when you arrive. OR you can download the free Swimtopia app on your phone to easily see a list of your swimmers events and your volunteer commitments. The homepage of the website has more info on this app.

    - Please note: At the Green & White Practice Meet, most swimmers will swim more than the normal 4 events - so that coaches can get base times for the season for everyone in each event.

    - WCST Concession stand will be open in the pavilion serving snacks, candy and drinks.

    - FREE After Meet Pizza & Pool Party at the Whittington Creek Pool. Adult beverages allowed only after the conclusion of the meet.

    - Parking is limited near the pool - you can park along the Boulevard - but NOT inside the traffic circle/roundabout - thank you!

    - Heat Winner Ribbons are given out after each heat to the first place swimmer. Heat Place Ribbons (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.) are given out at practices on Friday or Monday mornings and are placed in a folder with your swimmer's last name.

    - Rain/Thunderstorms are in the forecast - but swim meets still run in the rain - so bring your rain gear. Of course, safety is our first concern, but we do our best to complete each meet. Our swimmers train everyday and we want to give every swimmer the chance to swim all their events at a meet. See the WCST Weather Policy posted below...

    - Consult the WCST website's FAQ page for more great info!

See you at the pool! GO CROCS!!

    WCST Weather Pollicy

WCST Swim Practices and Meets continue as scheduled in rainy weather - so please prepare your swimmer - and always bring rain gear to meets when rain is in the forecast.

In case of thunderstorms, the pool will be cleared for 30 minutes at the first clap of thunder - for the safety of all swimmers and coaches. The coaches will decide whether to continue the practice or meet based on time remaining and weather forecast. Please be prepared to pick up your swimmer early from practice or have a carpool plan in stormy weather.

Meets that are stopped due to stormy weather before event 40 - and unable to resume - will be rescheduled. After event 40, meets may be rescheduled or considered a complete meet - the coaches of both teams will meet and make the call.
