Updates (croc mile, team movie, & more!)
Hi all!
I hope everyone had a great weekend, and Happy Father's Day to all the dads reading this! First, a reminder to RSVP for our meet this week against the Westside Y. I'll include the link at the end of this email and RSVPs are due Tuesday at noon.
We also have a few updates that you may want to mark on your calendars.
The crocodile mile will be Tuesday June 26th (a little over a week away) during 10&under practices. The kids will have one hour to swim as many laps as they can, and anyone who swims 66 laps (1 mile) will be recognized at the end of the year banquet. Croc mile usually happens in July, but we're trying it a little earlier this year so that it doesn't fall too close to Smoky or City. We're also considering offering a make-up sometime in July for kids who might be out of town next week– if you know that your child won't be at practice on the 26th and wants to do the make-up, please go ahead and let me know so we can work on scheduling that.
Fourth of July week... because the 4th falls on a Wednesday this year and it's only a week before the Smoky Mountain meet, we will have practice every day that week except for the 4th itself. I know a lot of families will be on vacation, but we will still hold practice for those in town! My guess is that these will be small practices, but that's okay– if our numbers are low the kids who are there will get lots of individual attention to help them get ready for Smoky!
Our team movie will be the day after Smoky– Monday July 16th. Movie and time are TBD, but the movie will replace afternoon practice that day. All ages are invited, and parents are welcome but not required to attend. Look for more info about the movie closer to time.
Finally, if you've been around for a few years you probably remember Coach Trisha Forrester. Trisha coached with us in 2015 while she swam for the University of Tennessee, but she went home the following summer to train for the 2016 Olympic Trials and sadly for us wasn't able to coach. Trisha has graduated now and isn't able to coach full time, but this summer we are lucky enough to have her available for private lessons!!! This is a wonderful opportunity primarily for our more older/advanced swimmers. If you are interested in taking lessons with Trisha, please reach out to me. Once we have an idea of how much interest there is, we will schedule some days and times when Trisha will be at the pool– our hope is that she'll be able to come and teach a few lessons at a time rather than driving back and forth for individual lessons.
That's all I have for now– don't forget to RSVP for the meet this week!!!
